Downhill Skiing
We are located about 45 minutes from three downhill areas:

Burke Mountain in East Burke At this friendly, uncrowded, family- type hill, rentals start at $25/day. Lift ticket - $29 daily, $39 weekends and holidays. Lessons – Group $25/person for 1 ˝ hours; Private $49/person for 1˝ hours.

Jay Peak in Jay This great venue is home to some of the heaviest natural snowfalls in the East and is reliably cold, even in warmish weather. Lift tickets - $52/daily. Rentals start at $30/day. Lessons – Private $48 for one person, $20 for each additional person, for one hour.

Mt. Mansfield in Stowe This big, glitzy mountain is the destination of choice for many avid skiers. Expect crowds on weekends. Lift ticket - $58; $60 holidays. Rentals start at $28/day. Lessons are $33/person.


    



     
   

Swimming
In addition to the landscaped pool and deck located behind the South House of the Inn, there are several lakes within a short walk or drive.

Golf
Several golf courses, including the Newport Country Club, the Orleans Country Club and Mountain View Country Club, lie within easy driving distance of Inn on the Common, each with its own unique personality. Tee times are rarely needed and greens fees are low. This is golf the way it was meant to be: friendly, relaxed and fun.

Mountain View Country Club 
One of the oldest golf courses in Vermont, the Country Club offers lovely tennis courts and nine holes of golf surrounded by beautiful views. Green fees: 9 holes - $15 (Friday - Sunday, July and August $20); 18 holes - $25 (Friday-Sunday, July and August $30). Cart rental available. Tennis is $15 per person. 533-7477. Visit their website.

Newport Country Club  
Pine Hill Road. Greens fees: 18 holes - $25.00, 9 holes - $15.00. Cart rental: 18 holes - $24.00, 9 holes - $15.00 Tee times - 1 day advance notice recommended. 334-2391

Orleans Country Club
 
316 Country Club Road. Greens fees: 18 holes - $27.00. Cart rental: $13.00 per person. Tee times - 1 day advance notice recommended. 754-2333


In-room Massage Therapy is available by prior arrangement. Rates vary.

Horseback Riding 
Well-trained, gentle horses and knowledgeable guides will take you down lovely local riding paths and trails. Rates vary.

Walking
Walkers may wish to explore our back roads, either close by the Inn or around the Northeast Kingdom. We can supply walking and area maps, and suggest hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty.

Mountain Biking
Miles and miles of unpaved roads and country lanes make Craftsbury the perfect spot for biking. Bike rentals are available at the Sports Center.

Canoeing
Pack a picnic and some sun block, then head on over to the Sports Center at Big Hosmer Lake and rent a canoe. 

Vermont's Northeast Kingdom offers some of the finest Cross-Country Skiing on the East Coast!
Ski touring in Craftsbury is ski touring at its best. Ask for a copy of the Winter Rate Card for special X-C ski packages.

The Inn on the Common is connected to the Craftsbury Nordic Center, a full service ski touring facility located on 140 acres by Big Hosmer Lake, just two miles north of Craftsbury Common. The trail network passes the Inn, or can be joined at the Center where the core trails are located. Ski on 110 kilometers of expertly groomed and tracked recreation and race trails. 

The Craftsbury Nordic Center offers the finest trail network in Vermont with a wide variety of terrain to suit every skier’s ability. Trails are groomed to accommodate both traditional and skate skiers.

All skiers must have a Trail Pass, which may be obtained at the Ski Hut of the Nordic Center. Be sure to grab a Trail Map when picking up your Trail Pass. Rental equipment is available. Prices vary.

Snowshoeing and Ice Skating
The Nordic Center rents snowshoes and the Center staff can help you choose routes through the woods or across fields. Skates are available at the Nordic Center at no charge. The pond beside the Ski Hut is usually cleared for skating.

Lunc
h is served daily from 12:30 P.M. to 1:30 P.M. at the Center Dining Hall. Get a lunch ticket at the Center office. Snacks and soup are available at the Touring Center throughout the day.
